Tiny Moments in Tiny Time and the Decisive Moment

I love reading about the great photographers from the past and present. There is a concept called the decisive moment which I think we photographers are familiar with. That is Henri Cartier-Bresson’s decisive moment and the idea that making images on the run. From reading in context, I think people feel that it is more about catching the moment with speed and efficiency. That is a great skill to have, and I love when I see examples of the decisive moment in practice. For me though, I gravitate towards what I like to call tiny moments in tiny time. I am usually slow to focus, and I take longer to get the photograph. If I am being honest with myself, I am my own enemy because I second guess my focus to the point where I take longer to get the shot. Anyway, short version, I am slow and do not have many decisive moments, unless I am using flash at f16 and close to my subject. For myself and my photographic journey, it remains to be tiny moments in tiny time. I try to make the viewer feel like they were there and seeing what I see in those tiny time moments. I do not always succeed, but in life, who does?
